A Creative God

For the past two years, I've worked at BBC in Shreveport doing Graphic Design/Advertising.  It's been such a huge blessing to be a part of such a talent group of people.  Broadmoor is such a traditional/conservative church, but they have an amazing group of people constantly pushing buttons and pushing the folks at the church to move past their years and years of traditions and push for a passionate, creative relationship with Christ.  and....pushing non-believers into stopping for a second to think about where hope comes from...or about what it means to love.

It's been a blast being able to push people. That's what good art should do.  It should make us look at the piece and then reflect back at ourselves and our own lives.  One of my favorite definitions of art is "creating order out of chaos".  A design idea usually starts as a huge mess, but is slowly refined into a beautiful project that makes sense and communicates a message.  Our relationship with Christ is so much like art.  I was a huge mess, but Christ saw what I could become.  He had a plan for me.  He spent years forming and shaping.  I'm nowhere near a complete project, but i pray that I communicate his story well in a creative and beautiful way.

Today is my last day at BBC before leaving on tour.  It's bitter sweet!  I posted some of the billboards that i've made while working for the church.  That's the sweet part!  then below that i posted a members response to the boards.  The bitter part! (you may have to click on the letter to read it larger)

*A message for you* I serve a creative God.  I will never make a billboard that sucks as bad as your ideas...or summer groves'!  I will communicate the gospel in ways that are as creative as the God that i serve and that meet up to the standards of design that the world is used to.  I am tired of our churchs being in the dark ages of design.  Let's raise the bar. Go to target lady! That's what people are buying! I'm not selling any dollar store gospel!

Excellent closing. You made me wake Tara up from sleeping on the couch I was laughing so hard.

And just so you know, it's All the Hits Weekend on VH1 Europe and Shania Twain's "That Don't Impress Me Much" is now playing...flash from the past.
